Father Augustine celebrating the Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve
I always enjoy the peace and quiet after Christmas. Schools and University Chaplaincy, parish groups and meetings (and even the parish bulletin) take a break at this time of year. We even have four days without confessions being officially heard in the church (25 & 26 December, 1 & 2 January), although someone always turns up and is heard anyway. As a religious community, it gives us a chance to spend extra recreation time together in a more relaxed atmosphere than is sometimes possible when the demands of the apostolate are upon us.
Before Christmas, we had the Golden Jubilee of Ordination of Father Eustace and Father Justinian. Un fortunately, I couldn’t take photographs as I was celebrating Mass at the time! However, I hope at some point to have some pictures taken by others. In the meantime, here is the table set for dinner with Father Eustace’s sisters who had travelled from Ireland and England for the occasion.
And here are some pictures I took in the church during these quiet days following all the Christmas confessions and Masses.
