This is the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, Patron of Italy. It is a national holiday, so nobody is working today except, of course, the Passionist General Chapter.
This morning’s Mass was in Italian and was celebrated by Father Michele Pomili, delegate from Italy’s Pietà Province. This province includes the regions of Abruzzo, where the shrine of Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows is located (-we’re going there on Sunday), Le Marche, and Umbria, the region around Assisi, birthplace of Saint Francis and our own Francis Possenti (Saint Gabriel).
Today we have been looking at the booklet prepared by the Restructuring Commission on “The Characteristics of the Passionist Charism” and reflecting on our own experience of living out a Passionist vocation. You can find the text of the booklet on the Passio Christi official Chapter site (see sidebar for link).
As for me, I’ve had a full day, as I am now on a Redaction Committee, working with texts from discussion groups, so it looks like no more ice cream at Piazza Navona for a while.
