I think that this room was originally the refectory, which would explain the inscription.)
Today (Friday before Ash Wednesday) is the titular feast of the Passionist Congregation, the Solemn Commemoration of the Passion. The concluding prayer at Mid-day Prayer explains what Passionists are for:
Almighty God, awaken within us a spirit of prayer.
Give us devotion to the Passion of your Son
and the grace of fostering it in others by our preaching and example.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
