Back to (not so) Sunny Scotland
18 March, 2006 by PF
I arrived home this morning from Greenville. I left yesterday morning - plane to Charlotte, then New York (La Guardia), bus to JFK, plane to Dublin and connecting flight to Glasgow. On the last flight I met some parishioners returning from Saint Patrick’s Day in Dublin, so I came home in their taxi, which was quicker than the bus.
At the airport in Charlotte I bought Peggy Noonan’s book, John Paul the Great , to read on the journey home. She has a very good piece on “How do you find God?” on pages 82-85. Here’s how she begins: Finding God is not hard, because he wants to be found. But keeping God can be hard. He wants to be kept, of course, but for most of us finding him and keeping him is the difference between falling in love and staying in love. The latter involves a decision that is held to.
I’m glad you returend home safely. It’s still sunny here, though a bit blustery and chilly.
Peggy’s book is in my stack of books to read that has just gotten a bit taller with Pope Benedict’s The Yes of Jesus Christ and Journey to Easter. Still waiting on The Compendium.
About finding God…isn’t it He who pursues me always…where can I go from His presence…if I climb up to heaven, He is there…if I fly to the uttermost parts of the sea, He is there…His right hand will hold me fast.
